If you are a Christian in the military, you had better keep your mouth shut regarding your religious beliefs, and even if you clam up you can still be disciplined for not thinking correctly on issues as same sex marriage.
Restricting a military person from vocalizing their Christianity is a direct violation of Defense Department and Air Force regulations. However when Senior Master Sgt. Phillip Monk returned from deployment, he discovered his new training officer was a lesbian in Major Elisa Valenzuela. Trouble would soon be brewing due to their personal differences on morality.
Major Valenzuela called Sgt. Monk into her office to have a training staff member in their ranks disciplined for sharing his Christian faith with the trainees and calling homosexuality a sin. During the discussion which escalated to points of contention, Sgt. Monk also revealed that he had personal convictions against same sex marriage.
Sgt. Monk was abruptly removed for his position and reassigned to another Air Force job on the base. The change was so quick that Sgt. Monk had to receive permission to return to his old unit to retrieve personal belongings.
According to Sgt. Monk, Major Valenzuela had displayed contempt for a Christian military chaplain who she described as a “bigot” for preaching that homosexuality was a sin.
Major Valenzuela attempted to pressure Sgt. Monk into following her line of thought when Sgt. Monk refused to answer any addition questions of the major by saying, “I cannot answer your question because of my convictions”.
According to a military newspaper called the “Military Times”, Sgt. Monk was reassigned to a medical wing at Lackland AFB and a letter of counseling which is an official notice of infraction was put into his military file.
Liberty Institute Attorney Mike Berry is representing Sgt. Monk and Berry remarked that the military branches have reached a point where there is a “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy for Christians that support traditional values.
Remarked Berry, “We are apparently now at the point where a Christian is not allowed to vocalize his Christianity, and that’s a direct violation of Defense Department and Air Force regulations”.
The Liberty Institute protects the religious freedoms of the military from being suppressed. There are already military regulations that forbid military personnel from keeping the military from expressing their faith.
A dilemma exists where beliefs as atheism are trumping the expression of religion even though atheism is also classified as a religious expression. Eradicating all religious preference is also a goal of human secularism which is also defined as a philosophical perspective. http://onenewsnow.com//culture/2013/08/07/faith-group-to-pentagon-why-are-you-listening-to-an-atheist#.UgLAWY03vTc
Having tolerance of all cannot be done without having preference for something.
