Don Johnson was awarded $19 million from his lawsuit with Rysher Entertainment. Reports from Zap 2 It and Deadline on Feb. 11 state the actor of the hit CBS show; “Nash Bridges” was owed $23 million in profits that he never received.
Litigation between Rysher Entertainment and Don Johnson began in 2000. Year after year of spinning their wheels the actor decided to take action and file a lawsuit against them in 2010. During the course of the show which aired from 1996-2001 Johnson states that he was owed a total of $23 million in profits that he never received. Compounded with interest, Don figured if he won the lawsuit the total could be somewhere in the $29 million area. That is quite a chunk of change to be cheated out of.
Finally after a long and stressful jury trial where multiple appeals were dealt with, Rysher Entertainment decided to settle with Don Johnson. The original agreement that was decided in 2012 with the California Court of Appeals was for $15 million, plus interest for the profit sharing dispute.
Johnson explained that his contract deal entitled him to half-ownership of “Nash Bridges” if the show became a hit and lasted sixty-six episodes. Well, the show took off and ran for five years with a total of one hundred and twenty-two episodes to its credit. The actor was then entitled to profits from the show since its start as well as from all the re-runs that aired once the show ended.
A settlement contract was written up for the actor to sign whereas he would receive his due profits from the hit show totaling $19 million. Johnson agreed to the terms, signed the document and can finally breathe again after the long and tenuous legal battle and actually seeing the payout he earned that was due to him in his hands.
