Don Giovanni, new classic production at SF with Italian film, theater director

Don Giovanni the comic drama by Mozart opens at San Francisco Opera tonight with a classic style and an Italian film and theater director, Gabriele Lavia.  Here are the pictures, in the slideshow at left which plays full screen.

Lucas Meachem in the title role is a former Adler Fellow, Ellie Dehn, Serena Farnocchia, Kate Lindsey, and Marco Vinco.  Music Director Nicola Luisotti conducts the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus with sets designed by Alessandro Camera and costumes by Andrea Viotti.

American tenor Shawn Mathey will replace Topi Lehtipuu as Don Ottavio.  Topi Lehtipuu has withdrawn from this production due to illness.

Tickets cost from $10 cash for standing room to $330.  Production runs three and one half hours.

Folks still mention the last Don Giovanni with Mariusz Kwiezien, which made the theaters.

Review to come.
