Golden Globe award-winning actor Don Cheadle ("House of Lies") is set to portray the late jazz musician and trumpeter Miles Davis in a biopic, titled "Kill the Trumpet Player."

The film project, co-starring Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana, is being financed by BiFrost Pictures, according to the Associated Press.

The movie, co-written and directed by Cheadle, will reportedly pick up Davis' life after the pioneer's musical career emerged from hiatus in 1979.

Jazz pianist and bandleader Herbie Hancock has been attached to the project. Hancock was a member of the Miles Davis Second Great Quintet in the 1960s.

Production is expected to start next June.
