Domestic violence pit bull victim in Austin, Texas (Photos)

Austin, Texas: Most news stories try to seek out any possible horror tale involving pit bulls. The American Pit Bull Examiner tries to write one story about good pitties for every bad one. Today's column is dedicated to Nina Simone. Her name has been changed to protect her former family's identity.

Nina Simone is in hiding. Her family, the mom and beloved children who raised her have had to give her up. They are secretly moving from house to house as their own lives are in jeopardy.

This family doesn't know where they will end up. Imagine losing your home and the life you knew along with your beloved pet. We are working hard to find Nina Simone a new home. Please help us help Nina Simone.

Nina Simone is named after 'the high priestess of soul,' "ain't got no father, ain't got no mother……..I've got life.." We couldn't think of a more appropriate name for this lovely girl who dreams of a better life. She is mellow and gentle, loves children and all people.

The amazing thing about pit bulls is amidst all the hate and evil, they still find something happy to wag their tail about and Nina Simone is no different. When we were taking her photo, she just wanted to roll over and wiggle in the grass.

Nina is a survivor like the family who was forced to give her up. She has foster care for a few weeks, but after that, like so many other pit bulls in the nation, Nina Simone has no where to go.

Like the beautiful Nina Simone song, she's got life and she enriches our own life by knowing and being around her.

Please contact doggirl1@earthlink.net if you can foster or would like to contribute toward Nina Simone's care. Please comment below this article and help us by sharing Nina Simone's story.
