On Wednesday October 2, 2013 Bishop C.E. Glover of Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fl posted a message on Facebook pleading with all churches and their leaders to set aside at least one Sunday during the month of October to discuss Domestic Violence.
Often times this is an issue that is never discussed openly in the church; it is usually swept under the rug and as Bishop Glover stated there are too many women who feel they have nowhere to turn and too many men who feel they can’t discuss their problems with other men in the church.
Bishop Glover is encouraging the leaders of the church to create a forum, preach a sermon or have an expert to come in. On one website www.domesticviolencestatistics.org here are some of the statistics that they found:
• Every 9 seconds a woman is beaten or assaulted.
• Around the world at least one in every three women has been beaten or manipulated into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime.
• Domestic Violence victims lose nearly 8 million days of paid work per year in the US alone – the equivalent of 32,000 full-time jobs.
As we continue to look at this issue up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence and everyday in the US three or more women have been murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.
This is a serious matter in the church that has been kept silent too long. For every 10 women sitting on a church pew three will be murdered while the other seven may experience some form of domestic violence.
Bishop C.E. Glover is calling on all Religions, Faiths and Denominations to support him in the cause of eliminating and bringing awareness to Domestic Violence in the church.
