With year-round events and concerts at the Georgia Dome and Philips Arena, this station already has built-in crowds after hours. Whether you are staying in a local hotel, attending an event or just want something new to do, this developing area has unique spots for enjoying a night out in the city.
Sports Bars
If all you need is a beer and TVs, you're in luck. There are four sports bars in walking distance from the station, three of which have outdoor seating. The closest to the station is Taco Mac, where you can find 130 beers on tap. Next door is Dantanna's, which can also be accessed via the CNN Center. Dantanna's is a much smaller bar (but has a patio), and features food up a notch, if steak or seafood vs. pub food is more your style. To reach both bars, take the Philips Arena exit out of the station and at the top of the tall escalators, turn left to walk alongside Philips Arena. At the first street intersection, turn right and follow the road around about a block.
You can also get a drink and watch the game at Hudson Grille on the other side of Philips Arena. After leaving the station, turn right at the top of the escalators and then left on Centennial Olympic Park Drive. At the next intersection turn right on Marietta Street -- can't miss the large patio overlooking the street.
The last sports bar was recently rated as one of the top sports bars in the country by CNN: Stats. It features a rooftop patio and a beer tap system that allows patrons to pour their own beer. Follow the same directions as above, but after walking past Taco Mac and Dantanna's, turn left on Marietta Street and walk about a block.
Der Biergarten
For international-vibe drinking, head to Der Biergarten next to Stats. There is a mix of indoor and outdoor seating in a remodeled commercial building on Marietta Street. Don't miss Oktoberfest.
Park Bar
Newer to the area is Park Bar across the street from Centennial Olympic Park. Craft beer as well as bourbon are features here along with a private event space complete with a bar and audio/visual system. Take the Philips Arena exit out of the station and turn right, then a quick left on Centennial Olympic Park Drive. Walk about two blocks to reach the building, which is just behind Subway.
SkyLounge
For a really swanky night on the town, head to the top of the historic Glenn Hotel for their rooftop SkyLounge. Featuring a bar, lounge seating and a stellar skyline view of the city, the venue is open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays during the warmer months. Take the Philips Arena exit out of the station and turn right at street level, then left on Centennial Olympic Park Drive. At the first intersection, turn right on Marietta Street. The Glenn Hotel is less than a block down on the right.
Thrive
More or less across the street from the Glenn Hotel is Thrive, a trendy restaurant and bar that features live music on Fridays with Wesley Cook. The menu includes everything from sushi to baby back ribs and seafood.
MARTA trains stop running at 1 a.m., so plan to be back at the station before then or arrange for another way home if your nightlife extends far into the night.
