Class 7A State Champion Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas defeated Miami Northwestern H.S. 38-3 at the Dolphins High School Series Kickoff game at Sun Life Stadium. It was a beautiful night to play football and both schools had great fan/student turnout at the game. St. Thomas began their first three drives with great field position but was not able to convert until, on their third drive, a third down screen pass took them to the Northwestern 7 yard line. #22, Madre London scored the first touchdown for the Raiders from seven yards out. The Northwestern offense spread the field on their first half drives going with four wide receivers, but they couldn't contain the St. Thomas pass rush. The Raider defense sacked Northwestern QB's five times during the game. Three plays occurred at the end of the first half to seal the win for St. Thomas
- Northwestern couldn't score off of an interception when they drove to the St. Thomas 1 yard line. They converted a fourth down attempt but on the second fourth down of the drive, the quarterback threw an interception.
- St. Thomas then proceeded to drive 96 yards for a touchdown to go up 21-0.
- On the succeeding kickoff, Northwestern had good field position on a squib kick at their own 42. The quarterback fumbled the ball and while the Northwestern players were wondering if it was an incomplete pass, a St. Thomas player picked up the ball and ran it into the end zone with :02 left to go up 28-0.
The public address announcement duties were split between St. Thomas and Northwestern during the game. Each gentleman used his own unique voice to provide down and distance and inform the public on upcoming school events. The stadium scoreboard displayed live tweets by students during timeouts and fans were treated to the music of both schools marching bands.
