In 2011, the Warner Brothers and Alcon Entertainment film “Dolphin Tale” hit the theaters. Based on the true story of Winter the dolphin, whose miraculous rescue and recovery—thanks to a groundbreaking prosthetic tail—made her a symbol of hope and perseverance to people around the world.

Directed by Charles Martin Smith (Air Bud) “Dolphin Tale” starred Harry Connick Jr., Morgan Freeman, Kris Kristofferson, Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. The filmmakers realized that Nathan and Cozi, like their characters, were homeschooled and saw this as a unique opportunity to reach out to the homeschool community.

Like the little engine that could, “Dolphin Tale” surprised the studios and filmmakers alike. Having made the No. 1 spot at the box office by its second weekend, it earned over $95 million worldwide. After examining the demographics, the studio executives concluded that a large part of the success of the film was due to the homeschool community.

In grateful response, the filmmakers, along with Cozi and Nathan, have recorded a thank you to the homeschool community for their overwhelming support of the first film. The video includes an introduction to the upcoming sequel, "Dolphin Tale 2", which hits theaters September 19.

"Dolphin Tale 2", from Warner Brothers and Alcon Entertainment, tells another true story inspired by the life of Winter and introduces a new baby dolphin named Hope, rescued by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in 2010. Winter and Hope, who both reside at CMA play themselves in the movie.

About Dolphin Tale 2

It has been several years since young Sawyer Nelson and the dedicated team at the Clearwater Marine Hospital, headed by Dr. Clay Haskett, rescued Winter. With the help of Dr. Cameron McCarthy, who developed a unique prosthetic tail for the injured dolphin, they were able to save her life. Yet their fight is not over. Winter's surrogate mother, the very elderly dolphin Panama, has passed away, leaving Winter without the only poolmate she has ever known. However, the loss of Panama may have even greater repercussions for Winter, who, according to USDA regulations, cannot be housed alone, as dolphins' social behavior requires them to be paired with other dolphins. Time is running out to find a companion for her before the team at Clearwater loses their beloved Winter to another aquarium.

The entire cast of Dolphin Tale is reuniting for the sequel, including Harry Connick Jr., Morgan Freeman, Kris Kristofferson, Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff, among others. A special addition to the cast of "Dolphin Tale 2," is champion surfer Bethany Hamilton (Soul Surfer). Charles Martin Smith (Dolphin Tale, Air Bud) has written the screenplay and is directing again.
