Dollywood is already a well known tourist stop, but country queen Dolly Parton isn’t about to rest on her laurels. According to a Fox News article dated Wednesday, August 21, Dollywood will be building a resort, bringing additional shows, and new rides. This massive project should cost somewhere in the ball park of $300 million dollars. This next decade will cost Dollywood more money than it has since it’s opening 28 years ago.
DreamMore Resort is set to open in 2015. Parton envisions a ‘resort hotel lobby with a three-story window that frames Mount LeConte – one of the tallest peaks in the Smoky Mountains.’ Visitors will be able to book a grand suite in the hotel that she uses when she stays at her theme park.
Thrill-seekers will be particularly excited about the roller coaster plans that are underway. A ‘family coaster’ is supposed to open in 2014. ‘Fire Chaser Express’ may not be as intense as some of her other rides, but children of elementary school age will enjoy the rush.
Yahoo AP says that the resort hotel has been a long-running dream of the country entertainer. Apparently it had been on her mind since her park opened.
“The thing we’re most excited about is finally building our resort,” Parton shared by phone.
“We’re starting out with a resort that has 300 rooms. Some of the rooms will accommodate up to six people in a family,” she continued.
Parton also hinted that ‘front porch spaces’ will be plentiful, as she grew up with people who gathered on front porches or in the kitchen.
Those entering the lobby will receive the royal treatment by receiving a glass of lemonade in the summer and a cup of hot chocolate in the winter.
A fishing pond and fire pits will also be added among the other new attractions.
It isn’t uncommon for Dollywood announcements to be made each year, but this one has certainly exceeded expectations.
Dollywood and it’s breathtaking surroundings have secured the area as a tourist destination over the years, but with the resort on the way, it is certain that even more people will be gravitating toward the area.
