Legendary singer/songwriter Dolly Parton has announced that she will release a new album and tour extensively in 2011.
A posting on Parton's official web site Tuesday said, "This is the news you have waited all year for! Dolly Parton is pleased to announce that she is planning to release an album full of new material on her own Dolly Records, worldwide! This, as-yet unnamed record, will feature new compositions from Dolly that have never been heard before."
The singer is also planning to tour behind the new record. Parton will perform in the US in the early summer of 2011, followed by some late summer touring in Europe. She also plans to visit Australia in the fall.
The upcoming record will be Dolly Parton's first in three years. Her last album, 2008's Backwoods Barbie, peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts.
According to The Boot, Parton also has a film project on the horizon. She is slated to begin filming Joyful Noise in Atlanta in January. The movie co-stars Queen Latifah.
