Do you remember the Sister Act movies, starring Whoopi Goldberg? Sure you do! You know, the 1992 the comedy film released by Touchstone Pictures featuring Whoopi as a lounge singer who had been put under protective custody in a San Francisco convent.
Still doesn't ring a bell? Well how about the fact that she pretended to be a nun to save her life while the mob boss was out to get her? Or maybe you'll remember that while in the convent, her racy, direct and candid comments, schemes and contrasting lounge singer lifestlye collided with the more spiritual and modest lives of the resident nuns?
It was such a hit, that it was followed by the sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (yeah, hip hop and R&B singer Lauren Hill of the Fugees co-starred in this one). Overtime it became a musical that premiered at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California in 2006 and eventually landed in broadway in 2011.
