Doll collecting: is it an expense? Or is it worth it?

As a New York Doll collector, it is not easy to write about dolls for purchase, particularly expensive dolls. That sounds outrageous coming from a doll collector, but it’s true. The reason for this is because of our economy and that there are millions of Americans, out there still without work. This means money is very tight.   What I think is expensive, is dolls of $50.00, $100.00 and up. But it doesn’t matter, because the idea of buying dolls could be out of reach for many, no matter what the price.  I almost feel guilty talking about dolls, describing the designs, the cost and where to buy them; because among the millions of individuals out of work, are doll collectors.  So I ask, is it worth talking about doll collecting? Is the expense of dolls worth it? Is it all worth it?

My answer is yes.  Here is why.

                 Is Doll Collecting Worth Talking About?

1.       Dolls are definitely worth talking about it. They are like works of art to a Doll collector. Particularly when it is made by doll artists.  The enjoyment in the style of clothes, the face, the flowing hair, the design; they have a positive effect on us emotionally.  And when the doll collector gets together with other doll collectors, conversations are shared with a tremendous amount of enthusiasm.

Is The Expense Worth It?

2.      Dolls are a comfort and they have the ability to make doll collectors happy.  Dolls are wonderful to the touch. They are exquisite in their design and presentation. So if we are able to, even if we have to save pennies to get at one, the expense is worth it when these figurines can bring happiness and joy into our lives.

Is It All Worth It?

3.      Time is short. It goes fast and leaves us sometimes wondering if we are coming or going. But what is important to know is that if a doll or a collection of dolls, big, small or even none at all, make us stop to look into a shop window of them, to enjoy for just a few minutes, bringing a smile to our lips and cause us to take a deep breath and then let out an adoring sigh, then it’s worth it.   It is all worth it!
