Doll artist profile: julie bill of jewels by julie

In the world of doll collecting, there are many types of dolls to choose from. But there are doll artists who set their dolls and work a part, so that doll collectors can, if they choose, to be selective in the types of art they want. In this article we explore Julie Bill of Jewels By Julie and her work as a doll artist. In a past article called “the doll artist secret skill to create dolls- Part 1 and Part II”, professions prior to doll artists, indulging in the doll artistry, was discussed in lengths, highlighting how his or her experience impacted their work as artists. Ms. Bill is an artist who has really applied her talent and previous profession toward her work. Ms. Bill, has a background in jewelry designing and repair. She also holds a cosmetology license. Viewing her dolls on her Jewels By Julie website, illustrates the detailed technique she uses and the care and elegance she expertly executes on the faces and costuming of the various dolls she works on. An interview was conducted to enter her realm of intricately designed and one of a kind dolls.

Ea: How many years have you been creating your dolls?

Jb: I have been working with dolls for almost 10 years

Ea: How would you describe your style?

Jb: Not sure I really have a style

Ea: What do you love most about creating?

JB: What I love most....adding bling as I love anything that sparkles. Guess that's one reason I love making the genie's and belly dance dolls.

Ea: What do you find challenging as a doll artists?

Jb: I find repainting challenging. Especially difficult is the eyes.....trying to get them realistic looking. Some of the costumes are also a challenge. Often I have to make my own patterns or combine two to get what I need. I am always on the hunt for beads, material, jewelry findings, etc... that I can use with the dolls.

Ea: We noticed that you create celebrity dolls, what lead you to developing this incredible area of art.Singer, Cher

Jb: My celebrity dolls started with Cher. She came to my town during her Farewell concert tour and I decided to make her a doll.

Ea: Are you a doll collector? And if you are, what dolls do you like to collect?

JB: I am a doll collector. I have dolls that I owned as a child. Mainly talking Mattel dolls from the 1960's. I also have some Barbie's and Liddle Kiddles.

What an enjoyment doll collectors will have in seeing this artist's work. Thanks Julie Bill for joining our doll reading community. For more information on Julie Bill and her beautifully designed dolls, please visit her site Jewels By Julie
