Dachshund Outreach Giving and Socialization (DOGS) debuted its Summer 2014 T-shirt designs this week. This is the charity’s third official installment of original tees, and their first time to offer a wirehair option for dachshund fans. The limited edition shirts are considered wearable art and only available via the nonprofit in limited quantities.

DOGS produces the shirts for dachshund fans typically twice a year. They are moderately price and include 2-day UPS shipping at suggested donation price points. Through the next two days during the pre-order window the shirts are discounted. Patrons make a tax-deductible donation at the suggested price points and in return get a T-shirt as token of their thanks for the support.

In the last year and a half the 501c3 has distributed 148 shirts to 28 different states in the union. More impressively, and thanks to the partnership with Dodger’s List, each shirt is shipped with life-saving information on IVDD; the disease that continues to haunts 1 out of 5 dachshunds and their humans.

The shirts only generate a modest amount of funds for the charity, but the fans really seem to like them. DOGS champions the long-bodied hounds, and believes in making personal connections with as many dachshund humans as possible. What the shirts lack in monetary gains, they make up for in grass roots awareness and outreach. Recipients of shirts are encouraged to recycle the IVDD literature; they're asked after they read it to pass it along to another dachshund friend or local veterinary office.

DOGS is working to bring the community together and empower its members with knowledge. It is the charity’s hope that every dachshund human knows that back problems are not a death sentence. Dachshunds can live long and full lives with or without the use of their back legs. Treating back problems in the dachshund community ranges from conservative crate rest to expensive surgery and rehabilitation which each family determining what’s best for them. No dachshund should be euthanized because of back problems. If you're unable to handle a special needs dog, there are rescue and rehab organizations and other pet sanctuaries available to accept your dachshund.

If you want to help DOGS, please consider making a tax-deductible donation or pre-ordering a shirt today. The shirts will arrive in Southern California early June for distribution worldwide, but the discounted price point is only good through Saturday, May 3 at 11:59 pm PST. On Sunday the price will return to $40 a shirt.
