According to Tuesday's AJC News, an abandoned dog with the words "free," and "I need a home," written in black marker on her body and face, was found last week in Benicia, Calif.
Just before the city's Fourth of July celebrations kicked off, the frightened and whimpering dog was discovered by a woman who was walking home from work; Shannon Bettencourt, told AJC News:
It's hard to imagine what somebody was thinking when they did that,
The first thing I thought was to call the police but then I was like no, they're going to call animal control,"
"I didn't know what could happen from there. I was like no way, I'll at least keep her for the night.
The friendly, well behaved dog, dubbed "Libby" which is short for "Liberty," quickly stole her rescuer's heart. Though someone had discarded the friendly dog like trash, without any apparent concern for whose hands she wound up in, Libby is safe today because Bettencourt has decided to adopt her permanently.
Bettencourt told AJC News:
It was actually kind of a blessing in disguise, even though it was very sad to start with."
