According to Monday's Fox Carolina News, the dog in Oconee County, S.C., who suffered with a metal pipe on his head for days, appears to be free.

It is unclear how the stray, mixed breed dog, dubbed "Piper," managed to slip the metal ducting from his head, but residents in the area believe that, as of Monday morning, the confining pipe was gone.

Over the weekend, volunteers worked tirelessly to capture the feral stray. On Saturday, the Upstate Animal Rescue Foundation advised their Facebook followers that Piper was beginning to calm down when gunfire in the area spooked him and he ran away yet again.

On Monday morning, the rescue organization stated:

Unconfirmed reports coming in that Piper has been spotted, by area residence, and the metal duct pipe is gone from his head.
I so hope this is true and he eats a feast today.
Oconee County Animal Control is in charge and can further verify and update on this news.
