Dog in urgent market for fresh new life: Rescuing Poker

Brookhaven Animal Shelter

In Brookhaven, Long Island, Poker uses every "dog look" she can to get the attention of would-be adopters as they pass by her kennel at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. No one stops to greet her or play.

Is it because she looks like a pit bull? Poker is listed as a terrier mix.

Is it because the puppies get all of the attention? Poker is barely three-years-old.

Poker certainly sounds perfect. Here is her evaluation report:

"Poker is a great ball of energy and tons of fun. Poker is now in the market for a new fresh start at life. She is absolutely adorable playing ball; she will sit and be your best buddy. With so much love to share and loyalty to be had Poker will make someone a fabulous companion and best friend. She is short but stocky and about 40 pounds of love. She is approximately 3 to 5 years young, heart worm negative and will be micro chipped and spayed.

A volunteer who has met and socialized with Poker states the dog is quiet; rarely barks or makes a fuss.

If there is another dog in the family, the shelter would require a "meet and greet" before any adoption.

Poker's story has been shared nearly 10,000 times and not one person has come forward to offer this dog a new life. Please share her photo and this story with your friends, coworkers, and family.

As of this time, the Brookhaven Animal Shelter has waived all adoption fees. Funds have been pledged by animal advocates if a qualified rescue organization would like to help this dog.
