A South Chicago man is behind bars after he allegedly attacked a woman and killed her dog, reported Sunday's Chicago Tribune.
According to records, on Friday night 36-year-old Raymond A. Rodgers was engaged in a heated argument with a woman that he lives with; just before he allegedly tried to hit the woman, her dog began barking and tried to intervene on his guardian's behalf.
In response, Rodgers allegedly pulled out a knife and proceeded to stab the dog to death.
Before dying, the faithful dog managed to bite his guardian's attacker, who fled from the scene after the dog died.
Rodgers' attempt to seek medical treatment for the bite wound led to his arrest on Saturday.
Rodgers is facing charges for domestic battery and criminal damage to property - a charge related to the death of the dog.
