AARF (Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends) Pet Central has partnered with Trainer Lennox Gavin of Paws-A-Tive Results Dog Training to offer a wide variety of dog training classes during the month of February. Mr. Gavin is certified by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and during his classes he utilizes only proven and positive training methods. All classes will be held at AARF Pet Central located at 6570 James B. Rivers Drive in Stone Mountain.
Here are the classes that will be offered:
Puppy Class – beginning Wednesday, Feb. 13 – 7 to 8 p.m. – classes for puppies ages 3 – 12 months meet once a week for five weeks Puppy Class; this class will teach basic commands - sit, down, stay, come, leave it, drop it/release, and wait; puppies will also begin to work on loose leash walking; the class will also address potty training and unwanted behaviors, such as jumping, chewing, barking and puppy biting.
Stop Jumping On Me Workshop - Saturday, Feb. 16 - 2 to 3 p.m. - a one-hour workshop to teach your dog not to jump up on you and other people.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Class - beginning Thursday, Feb. 21 – 7 to 8 p.m. – this five-week class will prepare the team of handler and dog for the A.K.C. sanctioned CGC test; dogs should be able to follow basic commands consistently and should be well socialized; the class will introduce the 10 test items and review strategies for each item; the CGC test will be administered at the last class.
Potty Training Workshop – Saturday, Feb. 23 – 2 to 3 p.m. – a one-hour workshop on potty training for both puppies and adult dogs
Leash Aggression Class – beginning Tuesday, Feb. 26 – 7 to 8 p.m. – this four-week class will teach the handler how to get his or her dog under control while on leash in the presence of dogs or people through teaching management tools; handlers will also be introduced to canine communication to help recognize and understand the "stress signals" and how to use those signal in training the dog change the dog's reactivity to calmness and acceptance.
