Special 2012 dog calendars feature dogs working, loafing, playing and mugging for the camera. Created for regional dog groups, these calendars assist rescue groups, dog activities, and K-9 patrols. The calendars raise money for charitable dog projects.
HBGRR – Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc., is a non-profit organization rescuing Golden Retrievers and golden mixes. Founded in 2000, HBGRR has grown from a home-based rescue into a nationally recognized sanctuary. Hundreds of dogs pass through the rescue gates every year, getting a vet check, personality evaluation, and placement on the adoption list. Dogs that are not adopted due to illness or age have a permanent home at the Elverta sanctuary. The 2012 Homeward Bound calendar is $21 plus shipping.
SSD K9 – The Sacramento Sheriff K9 Association is a non-profit organization supporting K9 teams. Originally founded to help handlers purchase service dogs, the charity now uses donations to cover protective equipment, canine training, and medical expenses for retired canines.
Recently the group purchased pole cameras so that officers can peer into attics, crawl spaces, and other spaces for K9 team safety. The 2012 SSD K9 calendar featuring local K9 teams is $20 plus shipping.
Regional – Canine non-profit organizations showcase local dogs and events. Check out the Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue calendar showing yellow, black, and chocolate labs adopted from GGLRR. The 2012 NorSled calendar benefits rescued sled dogs in Northern California. These Nordic dogs include Siberians, Malamutes, Samoyeds and mixed-breeds posing for the camera. Other regional calendars include Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue, NorCal Collie Rescue, Border Collie Rescue, and German Shepherd Rescue.
Contact your favorite group, whether breed-specific or general shelter such as the Sacramento SPCA, and check out their calendars. Many donations are tax-deductible and support local organizations.
