The night before the marathon, Jerry Butts said Boogie, his Labrador Retriever, slipped his leash and went missing. After the race, when Boogie crossed the finish line and no one was there waiting for him, police brought the dog to Animal Control. When Butts found Boogie at Animal Control, it was the first he heard of his dog’s feat.
Boogie received a medal from the YMCA for completing the 13.1 mile race. His time was 2 hours 15 minutes, which was better than 1,128 of the human participants in the race.
On Wednesday, according to his family, Boogie suffered a heart attack and died. He was 8 years old.
