In Dog Talk 10 I posted a video of an adult Labradoodle and a baby Malti-Poo playing. I asked what readers thought of the play. Was the little guy being threatened or overwhelmed? What was he learning?
You can see from this follow up video that he most certainly is not being threatened. He is a little bit overwhelmed though. (Only a little bit, I can’t imagine what it would take for Samson to become totally overwhelmed!)
He has learned a variety of ways to tell dogs that their play is a bit much. One thing he does is to freeze and hunch his shoulders to his ears. The dogs all seem to recognize this and stop.
He has also learned that he can roll over as a way of saying “enough, enough all ready”. That works well with most dogs, but Boone loves Sammy and continues to bark “Play with me, play with me.”
