In Salem, Ore. a 5-year-old Siberian husky was taken into custody Feb. 6, 2013 after stealing a pizza around 3 p.m. On the dogs collar it was written “Don’t mess with his food.“ Apparently that warning is for good reason as the dog ate the entire pizza that a family had been picked up from WinCo for dinner that night. Food aggression is a common and serious with dogs of any breed but this dog really made its point with his pizza theft.
Don Thomson, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said that a Salem woman and her family had come home from shopping at WinCo yesterday afternoon when she saw the husky in the neighbor’s yard at about 3 p.m. She began unloading her grandmother’s wheelchair from her vehicle and the dog leaped into the back seat and devoured the hot and cooked pepperoni pizza that the family bought for dinner at WinCo. She tried to scare the dog away but he barked at her aggressively and she called the sheriff’s office.
When a deputy arrived at the scene he found the dog still in the back seat eating the pizza. Caught red pawed, the dog continued to act aggressively and he could not get the dog out of the car and had to call the Marion County Dog Control Unit. Shortly after that a Dog Control Officer arrived and got the husky out of the vehicle and took him to the county dog shelter.
At about 4 p.m., the sheriff's office found that the dog's owners created a lost dog report on the county website earlier in the afternoon. Eysak, the husky, had escaped from his back yard. Once notified the owners picked him up at the shelter. It is unknown if the family got their pizza for dinner or if they were reimbursed for the loss.
