Pet surrenders are sadly all too common at public intake shelters, but not all surrender situations are the same. Some owners dump their pets and walk away without saying goodbye, leaving them scared, confused, and lonely. Most of their excuses leave shelter staff and advocates shaking their heads in disbelief.

But then there are owners who love their pet so much that they take the time to write a heartfelt note about them, hoping they get a second chance and a new forever family.

Meet Theo (A23323811), a 1-2 year-old pit bull terrier mix weighing about 55 pounds, who was brought to Animal Care and Control Team (ACCT) in Philadelphia. Theo’s owner took the time to explain that he loves Theo but is physically unable to care for the young dog the way he deserves. He goes on to describe how wonderful Theo is, his likes, dislikes, and behaviors, and asks that someone step in to give him the home he no longer can.

Theo’s owner writes that he hopes for a new family to give Theo his second chance.

At night, Theo sleeps in my bed - like a child - he needs to touch you - laying right next to you...He will be a great dog for a family who will walk him and let him run in their yard." - Theo's owner

All strays, lost, and surrendered animals, who loved and lost their families, just want a chance at a happy future with a soft bed, good food, and love. And that is what Theo, along with all the other shelter animals, is hoping to find.

His bio describes him as a sweet, happy, energetic puppy who enjoys being loved by people. He's lived with kids, knows some commands and is eager to learn more, loves to play and fetch, and did well in play group with other dogs. Theo sounds like a wonderful companion for most homes. Read Theo’s bio and pass it along to someone looking to add a pet to their family.

If Theo gets scooped up, or if he isn’t the dog for you, ACCT never has a shortage of healthy adoptable animals of all ages, urgently waiting for the chance to become part of your life. If you are ready to open your heart and home to a new companion, the shelter is filled to the brim with one that will surely be right for you.

Stop in and meet them at 111 W. Hunting Park Ave in Philly. To check the status of an animal, call 267-385-3800 or email
