Valentine's Day 2013 was the day that Tara, an Australian kelpie, lost her home.

Judging by the appearance of Tara's neck, which was raw from being tethered outdoors, the home that she lost was less than ideal.

Tara, and three of her puppies, were surrendered to the Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, N.Y., nearly a year ago, but only Tara remains in need of a new family; her puppies have all been adopted.

The following words are shared about this pretty girl:

I sit waiting for my chance at a better life. I need a family who will teach me how to play and enjoy life. I need a family who will handle me with hugs and kisses and welcome me into their home. I have so much love to give if only you would give me the chance that I so deserve.

A year is a long time to be impounded at an animal shelter - a year is a long time to be without a family.

Please take a moment to network on Tara's behalf - she deserves her own happily ever after.
