Update 9/16/13: Patty is in surgery again today (Monday). The following was shared on Monday morning:
Vet is going to use surgical mesh in the open wound. This means lots of bandage changing and pray for no infection as well as longer healing time. Vet also said that the skin probably died because of the lack of good little blood vessels that were torn out when whoever did his or her cutting on Patty. Had to make sure she had nice healthy vessels to attach things to. Surgery still going well, all things considered.
Update 9/13/13: A $1,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime. Patty is currently in serious, but stable condition, at an emergency veterinary clinic.
According to a press release submitted to the National Dog News Examiner, a critically injured dog was discovered in Detroit, Mich., near the 2800 block of Woodmere Street across from Patton Park, on Thursday afternoon.
The dog, dubbed "Patty," by her rescuers, is suffering from a stab wound to her side, and a large section of her skin has been carved from her body.
Someone neatly cut the skin away from Patty's neck, all the way up to her ears...virtually skinning the dog alive.
The rescue organization, Providing for Paws, shared the following about the grievously injured rat terrier:
This poor dog was found in a park in Southwest Detroit. One of our men in blue contacted us when he saw this poor baby.
We drove up to the park to meet the officer and could NOT believe what we were seeing! This is the worst case of abuse we have ever seen!
According to Joanne Dixon, of Providing for Paws, the cuts on Patty's body were deliberately made. She believes that Patty belonged to someone, stating:
Someone owned and loved this dog. Her nails are painted.
Patty is currently receiving treatment at an emergency veterinarian. The latest information indicates that the huge swath of skin cannot be reattached; Patty is receiving medication to help control her pain.
Funds for her care are being collected via this YouCaring site.
