Update 2/18/13 6:00 p.m. (PST): Initial reports from the veterinarian indicated that the dog would not survive. However, she is still alive at this point in time and is "holding her own." She is not, however, out of the woods.
On Sunday, a grievously injured dog, with a horrible head wound, was discovered in Surry County, Va.
According to Monday's WAVY News, the dog was discovered on the doorstep of a Dogs Deserve Better worker.
The dog was rushed to a veterinary hospital where heart-wrenching news was delivered...the wound, inflicted by a gun, would prove to be fatal.
Dogs Deserve Better posted the following on Monday morning:
She is not going to make it. She is microchipped but it is not assigned to anyone. Xrays show a bullet entered her nose and lodged at the base of her head near her spinal cord.
We need to let her go and are deeply saddened by that, however, we are very sensitive to the fact that a loving owner might be looking for her and would at least want the chance to say goodbye.
Right now, with a lack of current information on the dog's microchip, a search is underway for anyone who may recognize her. The owners need to be located, and the person responsible for this cruel act must be identified.
Anyone with information is asked to call 757-357-9292.
