Julep, the pit bull mix who was shot multiple times and left for dead on a road in Alabama, arrived to Rocky Ridge Refuge in Arkansas on Thursday.
According to Janice Wolf, of Rocky Ridge Refuge, Julep has a slew of maladies.
The hair loss, initially believed to be from mange, appears to instead be from malnutrition. The gunshot wounds have left the young dog mostly blind, and damage to her sinuses have even left her without a sense of smell.
Julep's muscles are atrophied from what is believed to be the result of having been confined to a small space for an extended period of time.
Amazingly, despite the numerous maladies, Julep is "happy," and wags her tail constantly. According to Wolf, Julep craves attention and, when not on the receiving end of much needed love, she is sleeping.
Julep has a long road to recovery ahead, but she is now safe.
For the first time, in quite likely her entire life, she is going to know compassion and kindness.
