Dog shot and dumped in the desert finds angels working to help him be whole again

Monty - Gunshot dog

Dogs - the all too frequent targets of human disregard, despite their forgiving, loving nature. It is easy to get wrapped up in anger at those which choose to inflict harm on society's beloved companions.

Surely there will be anger at the individual that shot Monty, a young Pitbull. The cowardly person not only shot Monty, but they also left him to die in the desert.

But there is a bigger story here. A story which involves the compassionate individuals that are striving to make Monty whole again.

On May 19, Monty, seriously injured and emaciated, was found outside of the home of a compassionate individual. Thankfully, this person did not turn a blind eye to Monty's obvious pain - instead, the badly injured dog was taken to a vet clinic for treatment.

The vet determined that the young dog had been shot - the bullet travelling through both of his rear legs. Monty was suffering from infection, gaping wounds, and malnutrition. The easy thing at this point would be to euthanize the abused dog. Fortunately for Monty, the person that found him felt that the dog deserved a chance to live.

The compassionate people of Animal Rescue Volunteers Inc. have taken Monty under their wing. Currently,  Monty is recovering from surgery. Perhaps the first of many. He has a band of followers that are fighting for his recovery - fighting for his quality of life. His supporters could have given up on Monty - his veterinary expenses are staggering. But they have made the decision to raise funds for Monty.

Monty is the poster-child for all of the abused dogs that are discarded, hurt, and killed by the people that put no value on the life of a dog. But Monty's fans know that his life has value and that he is worth helping - worth saving. Much like Sweetie, the Pitbull that was attacked by 4 other dogs, or Sammy, the Retriever that fell from a cliff - their medical expenses were enormous, but their lives were worth more. Doing what is right isn't always easy, but often, that which isn't easy means the most.

If you would like to read more about Monty's fight for recovery, you can join his Facebook page "Help Us Save Monty the Gunshot Desert Dog". If you are touched by Monty's story and which to make a contribution towards his medical expenses (currently upwards of $10,000), you can mail a donation to his vet clinic directly at:  ASEC, 1535 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025 (Please reference that the funds are for Monty, the Gunshot dog). Or you can make a donation at a Chip-In which has been established for his medical care here.

As his caregivers have repeatedly noted, every dollar counts. Monty deserves to know love and kindness, thankfully he is with people that realize this. Even if you can not donate to Monty's medical expenses, please take the time to circulate this article so that others can read about his plight and help if they are able to.

regarding Monty the pitbull who was shot and left to die in the desert......
I am from Phila, and stories like this are EXACTLY why I personally told Andy Reid that i was ashamed for him to have such a piece of trash as Michael Vick on our team. he was gracious abt my comment but wasnt abt to respond. I tolld him that I felt bad for him, being a religious man as he is ( Mormon) I hope he did a lot of praying because trrash like Vick dosnt belong on the EAGLES.
( I am a Catholic and I know that I was taught to forgive but i never said Iwas a good Catholic)
I do pray for theperson who did this, but what I pray for isnt something Id put in print.
I am anRN and a Catholic as I said but I cannot tolerate abuse or cruelty towards children or animals
I will be back on payday to contribute ( next Friday)

Loriann, I am a former Philadelphia resident, and I too have expressed by disdain to Jeffrey Lurie and Andy Reid (I know them both) for lowering their standards to sign the likes of Michael Vick!
Vick NEVER served a day in jail for murdering all the dogs who died...he only served 18 months in a cushy jail, for racketeering. Pathetic! He should never have been allowed back into the NFL...I wrote to them too!
As for Monty and other precious souls like him, I deeply appreciate all of the like-minded people who respect life, and stand up for those with no voice.

Yes it is easy to be angered at the worthless humans who do this sort of things to animals. We already know they are one step from doing this to other humans. Until the pentalities for this sort of action becomes more then what most would want to pay, such as 5 yrs in jail for first offence, things will not get better. And I'm sorry, but if I were to catch a person doing this, his soul would belong to God! Cause his butt would be mine! I'm 57 yrs old,and still want to cry when I see the abuse going on today. Does that make me weak? I will say NO. It show that I can still care!

Monty is the sweetest boy, (I am a volunteer with Animal Rescue Volunteers) i spent time with him after his last surgery, he gives lots of kisses and loves to lay with you, he gives Kissbulls (as I like to call them) a fantastic name they are not all bad, just like people. If you see a animal in need take the time to see if you can help. They will love you forever if you do!

This person should be shot, starved and left to die! Poor Monty what a sweet, loving soul! My heart goes out to him and I hope he finds his forever home. Thank you to everyone involved with his treatment, and recovory. And a special thanks to the person who found him and gave him the chance to survive! To Monty: I hope you may live a long, healthy, loving life like you deserved from the start...Long live Monty.

I am so happy to know, there are precious people out there that will protect and love our 4 legged friends. They are , and have always been so loyal to humans. Remember folks, there are so many sick, mean, and hateful monsters out there. How can anyone, who did what they did to this animal, go to church and raise your hands and say you love God? and then turn around and hurt his creation? That was very, and so mean of the people responsible for shooting this dog and leaving him to die. People like these, will get theirs down the road, one way or another. Thank you to all the lovely and humble people that will take our four legged friends under your wings.
