Dog shoots owner: Pistol accidentally fired by dog, shoots owner in leg

When a dog shoots his owner, it's pretty easy to make a joke. This is no joke, though, as a dog accidentally shot his owner in Florida. According to a report from Yahoo! on Wednesday, Feb. 27 (originally reported by Highlands Today), the incident took place when a Sebring man was traveling in a truck with his dog.

The pair was reportedly driving down the road when the dog kicked a gun on the floor and it went off. Gregory Dale Lanier has just been accidentally shot in the leg by his dog and he didn't even realize what had happened at first. What he told the police was that he heard the shot, saw smoke, and suddenly felt a burning in his leg. Indeed, his dog had just shot him.

The claim from Lanier is that the he thought the gun was unloaded and that is what he told investigators. It's not an entirely believable story when viewing the outcome of this incident, but it also seems pretty clear that the safety was not engaged on his weapon.

This situation where a dog shoots his owner has apparently happened before in Texas, so Lanier isn't even alone when it comes to embarrassing stories such as this one.
