There’s nothing like a dog in uniform! Meet BJ, Dog Scout of America, photo right.
Dog Scouts of America will meet this Saturday from 2-4p.m. at the Woodland West Church of Christ gym on 3101 W. Park Row, Arlington. This meeting is all about Dog Scouts, what Dog Scouts is, and how your dog can become a Scout.
According to Cindy Ratliff, Arlington Scout Master, a “Dog Scout Certification is similar to the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, with a few additional elements. Once a dog becomes a Dog Scout, then he can earn the specialty merit badges.” Merit badges include such outstanding behaviors such as manners, sign language and scent hurdles. Other merit badge activities include hiking, boating, search & rescue, therapy dog, herding, first aid, earth dog and triathadog!
Each meeting is filled with fun activities and things for people and their pets to learn. Some people and their pups just enjoy participating while not worrying about earning badges.
As well as teaching dogs good behavior and challenging them to use their natural abilities, the Dog Scouts of America are involved in many community outreach activities.
Membership in the DSA is $25 per year for each human and there is no limit to the number of dogs which can participate.
