Beautiful Sox was saved after his story was networked on Facebook, and now he needs help paying for the heartworm treatment that will save his life.
The original article about Sox appeared in this Examiner article.
Sox came very close to being euthanized at Greenville County Animal Care Services, a high-kill shelter in upstate South Carolina. His family had recently dumped him there, their excuse being "change in lifestyle."
This is one dog I took a personal interest in, because he's almost identical to my dog Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss died from cardiomyopathy in 2012, but I'm unable to take in another dog. So I did the next best thing: I networked Sox using Facebook.
First a notice was placed on Sox's photo on the Greenville County Pet Rescue Facebook page asking that his pull fee of $49 be paid. It was immediately covered by a supporter of the shelter. Then it was time to find someone who could take him. This would be difficult, as Sox is heartworm positive.
Melissa Cochran agreed to take Sox into her home if a training crate could be purchased. This, too, was quickly covered. Melissa now has Sox in her home as a foster, but it's likely to turn into an adoption. Her entire family is in love with this dog, but heartworm treatment is expensive.
That's where you come in; the dog lovers out there who can spare a few dollars so that Sox may live a long and loving life. Since Melissa isn't a 501c3, I'm listing her vet info. Payments pay be called in to cover the $415 heartworm treatment. Sox can't be treated until the amount is paid in full. Here's the info

Please help if you can, and if you can't, then share this article. Melissa says Sox is a great dog, and she wants to do everything necessary to ensure he has a long life. His photo at top left shows him at the high-kill shelter. He's come a long way in the few weeks since he was taken into a loving home.
