Dog savagely attacked by sword-wielding man in North Carolina

A few short days ago, a man wielding a sword, viciously attacked a dog in Spring Lake, N.C.

The dog, named "Gunnar," survived, albeit with massive, painful injuries.

According to Noah's Arks Rescue, they were contacted by animal control on Wednesday, and asked if they could take the dog, who was listed in "critical condition."

The rescue organization shared the following about the dog's condition:

It appears the person tried to sever the ears off Gunnar and missed and sliced off a huge chunk from his ear to his left eye. He then proceeded to stab and slash at the dog and tried to remove his right rear leg.

The injuries are unimaginable.

The heinous incident took place on Sunday.

A woman in Spring Lake encountered a man who stated that he was "tired of dogs running around his neighborhood and was going to take care of it."

Shortly thereafter, she heard screaming from several dogs in the area. Two dogs managed to escape the man's wrath, but Gunnar did not.

Amazingly, Gunnar's owner, who found him later that evening, did not seek veterinary care. Instead, the grievously wounded dog suffered until he was taken to animal control on Tuesday.

Gunnar remains at a veterinary hospital where he is receiving care for the massive damage to his body. Yesterday, he spent most of the day sedated as his wounds were cleaned.

As for the person responsible, according to Noah's Arks, animal Control and the Sheriff’s Office are working to get an arrest warrant.
