Vomit from a sperm whale may not be enticing to most, but it definitely caught the eye, or rather, the nose, of one dog in Morecambe, Lancashire.
According to Thursday's publication of the Mirror, a boxer named "Madge," was so intrigued by a stinky, hardened glob on the beach, that her owner, Ken Wilman, went home to do some investigating as to what the substance was.
Wilman started his detective work on the internet, and his research soon led him to information which revealed that the six pound glob was likely ambergris, or whale vomit.
It turns out that ambergis is valuable, so much so that Wilman could possibly sell it for upwards of £100,000.
Armed with his new found knowledge, Wilman promptly returned to the beach to retrieve the stinky rock, and he will be mailing a portion of that substance off to France to verify that it truly is, what he believes it to be.
If so, Wilman states that it will be "like winning the lottery."
Apparently, ambergis is utilized to help enhance the scent of perfume, hence the high value.
If the sample comes back positive, and the "vomit," is fresh, Wilman, who is currently unemployed, and his keen-nosed dog, Madge, will be sitting pretty.
