Dog runs over man with van, Boxer hits accelerator by mistake

A dog ran over a man in a van after he jumped onto the vehicle's floor and hit the accelerator, Daily Mail reports Jan. 16. James Campbell temporarily stepped out of the van to open the driveway gate to his Florida home when his pet Boxer managed to jump in the running vehicle and run over him. Unfortunately, the mistake proved fatal for the dog's 68-year-old owner.

The victim was trapped under the van's wheels when it rolled backwards. His partner, Iris Fortner, was in the passenger seat at the time of the incident. She tried to stop the van from rolling over Campbell, but was unable to succeed.

Police say Fortner opened the door and looked behind her to see where Campbell was standing when the dog jumped in the van, hit the accelerator, and ran over him over. The car was reportedly in reverse gear when the deadly accident happened. It quickly shot backwards and trapped the man.

Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene after ambulances arrived.

Will Iris Fortner feel the same way about her dog after he accidentally hit the accelerator of the van they were in killing her partner?
