Dog rescues owner after fall into ravine

Cornwall, England - Forget about Rin Tin Tin and Lassie, let's hear it for Monty the hero dog!

Monty, a Labradoodle, is being credited for not only standing guard over his seriously injured owner, Maurice Holder, 73, after he fell 40 feet down a ravine, but for leading the man back to safety.

The harrowing situation started innocently enough. Holder and Monty were enjoying a quiet morning stroll, high above a peaceful river.

As the pair took in their surroundings, the ground gave way, plummeting them to the bottom of the ravine.

Holder was knocked unconcious and when he awoke, Monty was standing nearby, patiently waiting for his beloved person to stir.

Holder woke none-too-soon.

Water from the river was dangerously close to the injured man.

As Holder roused himself, he was able to make his way to Monty who helped support and lead his guardian back up the bank and to safety.

At the top of the ravine, Holder laid down to rest and Monty trotted away.

Monty had not decided to abandon his person now that they were out of harm's way - instead, he had gone to a nearby pub to seek out assistance.

The clever dog pulled a move straight from a scene of Lassie when he barked at the patrons until they realized that he was asking for help.

Rescuers came to Holder's aid and he was eventually transported to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where he received treatment for a concussion and six broken ribs.

Good boy Monty!
