There was a dog in the water under a dock when Marina del Rey Sheriff's Dept. contacted Marine Animal Rescue (MAR) at 6 a.m. on Thursday, December 8.
He was holding on to some cables which were under the dock that enabled him to keep his head out of the water. The hypothermic dog was rescued by the head of MAR, Peter Wallerstein with assistance from Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Dept. The dog was then taken to LA County Department of Animal Care & Control.
The animal control department told him the dog would be kept alive through December 14 in case someone claims him. After that, he’d become available for adoption, but he could also be killed at any time after the holding period.
Wallerstein wanted to make sure that the dog would not be killed if his family did not show up, and contacted Forte Animal Rescue for assistance. One of Forte’s volunteers picked up the dog on the 15th and the Forte team named him Nemo after the 2003 animation film, “Finding Nemo.”
Wallerstein said Nemo is a “very nice dog. Never attempted to bite me even when stressed in the water! A number of workers at the County Shelter commented on what a nice dog he was. Although still a bit scared, he did wag his tail and was very friendly and good spirited.”
After going through this ordeal, Nemo deserves a loving home that will keep him safe and make him happy. He will be a loyal companion and make you happy tenfold!
Nemo is currently boarded at a cagefree facility. If you are interested in adopting Nemo, contact Forte Animal Rescue at 310-362-0321 or email at info@FARescue.org.
