Last December, she was living in a KCMO cemetery. Today, she has a family and a home.

KCMO animal shelter Wayside Waifs said on Friday that a couple has adopted the Chinese Shar-Pei mix. She first made news in December when it was discovered that the dog had formed a bond with a deer that lives at Elmwood Cemetery.

Once the dog was captured, she was taken to Wayside Waifs, where she was called Mattie. At the time, she was unsocial, extremely shy and afraid of people. Following medical treatment, she went to a foster home. The foster family worked with her on the socialization skills she needed before she could be adopted.

The shelter said that the dog, renamed Moxie, is happy and adjusting well in her new home. The couple who adopted her has experience working with dogs that were rescued from difficult situations. A year and a half ago, they adopted a puppy mill survivor from Wayside Waifs.
