A Marion County, Ore. man has been charged with one count of Aggravated Animal Abuse in the First Degree on Jan. 21 after he allegedly put a small dog in a heated oven, according to the Statesman Journal. The 9 lb Chihuahua-Pinscher mix was in the care of Kevin Dean Parrish of Lyons while his grandmother was out of town. Parrish, 20, admitted to having anger issues and said he lost control when the dog apparently tried to bite him.
After heating the oven to cook his lunch, Parrish said he went to the dog’s cage when he was snapped at, causing him to lose his temper. After striking the dog repeatedly, he remembered the oven was on and tossed him in. When he heard his brother enter the residence, he removed the dog from the oven, but not before he had suffered singed hair and burns on his feet. Little Kudo has been treated by a veterinarian and is now in the custody of Parrish’s father.
Parrish’s bail has been set at $10,000 and he will be arraigned today, Jan. 22. Aggravated Animal Abuse 1 is a Class C felony in Oregon, and conviction could bring a prison term of up to 5 years.
Marion County, Ore. was also the scene of a raid on the warehouse facility of Willamette Animal Rescue, where over 140 dogs were seized. Court appearances for two of the three women charged with abuse in that case are also scheduled for today.
