A mother and her daughter were able to escape from a devastating house fire in Raytown, Mo., this weekend, thanks to their faithful dog, "Abby," reported Sunday's Fox 4 News.
The two-year-old Cocker spaniel mix was able to wake her slumbering guardian, Nicole Moore, when the fire broke out early Sunday morning.
Moore and her teenage daughter had been sound asleep while the flames were spreading throughout the structure. By the time that Abby's barking woke the pair, the staircase was gone and they were forced to climb onto the roof, through a window, to escape.
The entire home was destroyed by the fire and the heroic dog who saved her family, perished as well.
Kory Buys, a family friend, told Fox 4 News:
The dog woke them up saved their lives, and you kind of hope that the hero will be able to live another day and unfortunately the dog didn’t make it out,”
