Dog owners beware, man posing as dog warden is trying to steal dogs

Residents of the New York towns of Pomfret and Portland, beware - an impostor is going door to door, claiming to be a dog warden.

According to Wednesday's WIVB News, a white man in his 30s is going door to door and trying to convince residents that he is the local dog warden and then, he attempts to take their pets.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office is searching for this individual, who is reported to drive a brown sedan. There is no further information on this man, or what his motives are.

Additionally, it is unclear if any dogs have been seized by this impostor.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (716) 753-4232.

Please share this information with anyone in the area and do not surrender your pets to anyone who is not able to provide proof of their identity.
