Dog owner injured while trying to save dog from man with knife

A dog owner in Antioch, Tenn., was injured after he rushed to save his dog who was being attacked by a knife-wielding stranger, reported Tuesday's Associated Press.

According to News Channel 5, the frightening incident took place shortly after midnight on Tuesday when 24-year-old Jacob Campbell was outside on his porch smoking and he heard his dog cry out.

Campbell ran from the porch, towards his dog, and observed a stranger attacking his pit bull with a knife; he proceeded to charge at the stranger and tackle him.

Campbell's efforts to save his dog resulted in a stab wound to his own shoulder.

The assailant fled on foot and has not yet been found by the local authorities.

The dog, name unknown, was taken to an emergency veterinarian for treatment; he is expected to make a full recovery.

Campbell was taken to a hospital where his shoulder wound was treated.
