A day old baby, abandoned in some bushes at a community park in Stechford, Birmingham, was discovered by an alert, persistent dog, who likely saved the girl's life, reported Friday's BBC News.
The abandoned infant, named "Jade," after the dog who discovered her, was found by Roger Wilday's German shepherd.
Wilday told BBC News:
If she had been there overnight, I think she might have died,
"I think my dog saved the baby's life. I'm very proud of her.
Jade, the canine, rooted out the tiny infant in the bushes, and according to Wilday, the dog would not come back.
Curious as to what was holding his dog's attention, Wilday went to the investigate and discovered the baby, tucked inside of a carrier bag and wrapped in a towel.
The baby has since been transported to the Heartlands Hospital, where she is described as "alert, happy and contented."
Things could have turned out much differently if not for Jade the dog's keen nose and persistence.
Ch Insp Green said:
"Paediatricians have confirmed the baby was lucky to be found when she was, as even just a few more hours exposed to the elements could have had fatal consequences.
The West Midlands Police are still searching for the infant's mother.
