A mother was allegedly assaulted by a man in the Old Fourth Ward Park shortly after he told two children with her to leave the area because his dogs were there first, police said Thursday.
The woman caught the incident on video using her camera phone.
The incident happened Monday when the woman and her friend were at the park in the playground area with their children.
The man was in the park with his two unleashed pit bulls and told two of the children that they needed to find somewhere else to play because his dogs were there first, according to the Atlanta police report.
“His dog came up and licked my pregnant friend’s 3-year-old daughter,” the woman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I told him he needed to put his dogs on a leash.”
The man then allegedly began arguing with one of the women and the other woman began taking a recording the man, which infuriated him.
The man, after leashing his dogs, came forward and smacked the woman's hand, causing the cell phone to fly out of her hand and fall to the ground, according to the report.
As the women called police, the suspect started walking toward the Beltline, they said.
The woman who took the video posted it on YouTube to “circulate the video through neighborhood watch groups,” she said.
Police are still looking for the suspect and are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Zone 6 investigators at (404) 373-5331 or Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477.
