Perceous, the Kansas City physician's dog that went missing after an explosion back in February, has been found. Perci, as he is called, was wet, dirty and thin but happy to be back in the arms of his owner.
The big break came about noon today when the dog's owner and his friends got word that Percy was running in a Kansas City neighborhood near Gillham Park.
Alerted by facebook posts, emails and phone- searchers rushed to the area. They were joined there by Dr. Verstraete and a news team from a Kansas City television station that hoped to film the happy reunion.
They got what they came for, when around 3:45 Perci was caught. Though several people had turned out to help, volunteer Stacy Reeves was credited with actually catching Perci because she got a slip leash on him.
The 2-year-old yellow Labrador had ran off in the chaos following a blast at restaurant on Kansas City's Country Club Plaza. The dog's owner, Dr. John Verstraete had an office at the House of Elan medical spa in the building next to JJs restaurant. After he exited the building following the explosion, Perceous, who had been at his side, took off.
Dr. Verstraete, friends and animal lovers have spent the past two weeks tracking the dog who was last seen running eastward back on February 19th.
After Perceous was lost more than 2 weeks ago friends of Verstraete, animal rescuers and news reporters put out a call for help. In the days that followed they organized seach parties and passed out fliers, and following up on tips. Each time there was a sighting, a facebook alert went out and friends and family were called out to search for the dog.
Today that tenacity paid off.
