A drug investigation has been made more confusing due to a possible dog fighting ring in West Charlotte.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were searching a home last Thursday in regards to a drug issue. The home is located at 1822 Grier Avenue in the Metro Division of Charlotte. WCNC reported yesterday that 10 pounds of marijuana along with $68k in cash was found at the residence.
Fourteen pit bulls were also found, 8 adults and 6 puppies. Animal Control said that antibiotics and drugs to treat dog fighting injuries were also at the site.
Neighbors were very surprised and apparently were unaware of the dogs in the backyard.
Three suspects were arrested and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Gang Enforcement Unit was in charge of the investigation. The unit did not divulge what led to the investigation.
Animal Control is caring for the dogs and stated that some of the dogs are in very bad shape. Arresting officers do not believe that the dog fighting took place at the house location.
