Dog fighting operation discovered at woman's New York home

A New Cassel, N.Y., woman running a suspected dog-fighting operation was outed on Friday night after a noise complaint was reported to the local authorities.

Officers responding to the call arrived to a house on the 700 block of Broadway and upon their arrival, discovered approximately 20 people fleeing from a garage.

According to Monday's Associated Press, Monica Christopher, 38, was arrested after finding evidence of dog fighting at the residence.

Inside of the garage, authorities discovered damning evidence, including a makeshift, wooden dog fighting ring, along with two injured and bloodied pit bulls.

According to Newsday, the local animal control confiscated 18 pit bulls, many of whom were injured, and took them to a shelter for evaluation.

Inside of the woman's house, authorities found further evidence of dog fighting, including steroids, treadmills, syringes, pens and cages.

Christopher is facing three counts of prohibition animal fighting and was arraigned on Sunday night.
