Once again, after being involuntarily pulled from the market in April, the notorious Android app that allows people to participate in training and fighting dogs is back again.
Android dog fighting app now for sale in Android marketplace
With this Android app, developed by Kage Games, LLC and now being called KG Dogfighting, players can "raise your dog to beat the best." More information about this game is available at Steve Dale's Pet World in Dog Fighting App Returns, Please Bark Back to Android Marketplace.
The developers of this app would have us believe that this app is provided for humanitarian reasons, citing contributions to animal rescue organizations and to the Japanese Tsunamai relief fund. They further claim that the app is meant to educate people. However, the description of the app says this:
"Feed, water, train and FIGHT your virtual dog against other players... action games, chatroom, many characters and dogs to choose from, virtual store, more"
Is this really the type of education we need to be providing? What good can possibly come from "teaching" someone how to feed, water, train and fight even a virtual dog? Granted, feeding, watering, training and fighting a virtual dog is marginally better than doing so with a live dog.
Still, would we allow this if this app allowed the virtual practice of child pornography? Let's choose the boys and girls we want to photograph without clothing. Blonds, brunettes, long hair, short hair? What about an age range? 5-8 years old? Younger? Older? What kind of lighting should we use? What type of camera and camera settings to get the right photo?
Of course, this would never be sanctioned. Nor should it be! This dog fighting app is no different. This is not a matter of free speech but a matter of protecting creatures that cannot protect themselves. The only difference is that these are four-legged creatures (dogs) rather than two-legged (children).
What can you do to get rid of the dog fighting app?
This app was removed from the marketplace once before. Tell Android that it should be removed again, and for good this time, by complaining to the Android marketplace that the app is inappropriate. One voice will make no difference, but if we combine our voices, we can let Android know that we, as a community of dog lovers and animal supporters, disapprove and that we will not support this type of thinly disguised market for greed and abuse.
