Dog dumped in sub-zero temperatures

Utica, NY - Sub-zero temperatures were apparently no deterrant to the man that decided to tie his Pit bull to a table and walk away yesterday.

People hearing the early morning cries from the 3 yr-old dog contacted authorities. They found a dog covered in wounds, with icicles hanging from his body.

The police photo shows the dog's blood on the backseat of the patrol car, and the dejected, defeated face of misery.

Initially, nobody knew who was responsible for abandoning the dog. But media attention and calls for the identity of the person responsible, led the owner out of anonymity today.

Though the man has contacted authorities, no arrests have been made and the name has not been released. Charges could be filed sometime tomorrow.

An animal control officer visited the man's residence and reported being "fairly confident" that there were no other dogs on the property.

As for the dog, he is recovering at the Stevens-Swan Humane Society where staff has named him Apollo. He is eating and drinking, which is a positive sign, however, shelter staff warns that he is "not out of the woods yet".

Donations towards Apollo's care can be directed to:

Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio Street, Utica, NY 13502.

Apollo appears to be a dog that suffered from great neglect at the hands of his prior owner. Thankfully he is now in the hands of people that care about his well-being.

I think he looks more like an American Bulldog than a pitbull. He is beautiful and how anyone could abandon him in the frigid weather is pretty much a waste of oxygen. I hope Apollo comes through with flying colors and finds a much better home.

  • jeff5495 1 year ago

They should take the owner, and do the same thing,as he did to apollo, then he will know how the dog felt.

  • Michelle B 1 year ago

That owner should be tied to a friggen pole in zub zero temps for at least a week! Let's see how he likes it!!! What a effing loser!!! UGH! I hate people sometimes!!! Im glad the doggie is recovering! There is a GOD! and he loves all creatures!

  • vmaxchic 1 year ago

I agree with you Michelle!!! Loser is too kind for this guy.

  • maxiemom 1 year ago

I agree also. The kind of people that do these things don't deserve a warm bed even in a small room. This creep deserves to SUFFERRRRRRRRRRRR!

  • Lin 1 year ago

I agree with you, Michelle B. If more of these awful cruel so-called people were subjected to the same treatment they doled out to these helpless animals, there would not be as much cruelty. I am apalled that so many cruel people who do these things are not being charged, or if they are, they get off with a slap on the hand, free to do their cruel acts all over again.

  • cheryl 1 year ago

So I hope we can put the former owner out in the cold for several hours naked until he bleeds. This is one of those times that a person should suffer the fate they doled out!e

i hope that evil bastard suffers a long lasting n painful disease.......1 that has NO CURE....
puppy, i'm keeping a wee blue healing candle lit for u as well as sending out prayers for a home where u will b taken care of n loved for the rest of u'r life.....not ALL humans r like that person.....

  • brandy 1 year ago

WHY do people own dogs if they aren't going to take care of them properly and completely neglect them?!! Seriously! Why take that on if you can't handle it? Why are people so stupid?! This poor dog and so many others like him suffer at the hands of stupid, cold-hearted evil people!

  • Judy 1 year ago

These savages that call themselves human make me sicker everyday. I hope the police tie the former owner to a table outside in this subzero weather and just forget he exists. As for Apollo, I hope he has a successful recovery and finds a wonderful and loving forever home with parents who will cherish him for the lovely dog he is.

  • Kelly 1 year ago

I want his name and his address so i can go drag him out of his house, tie him to a table in freezing temps and spray him with a hose for hours on end until he dies, yep, that's exactly what I'd like right now.

  • Gina R 1 year ago

I Hope Apollo... what a Sweetheart... gets a steady recovery and finds his Forever person soon. Please... do keep us updated... Thank you...

  • vmaxchic 1 year ago

So glad Apollo's cries for help were heard. He looks so sad in the photo, poor guy. I pray that he recovers and finds a happy home someday soon. As for the dirt bag who left him there......I hope he freezes to death somewhere. I just don't get people. A dog will stay next to his owner on his death bed, but humans abandon their pets when they don't want them anymore knowing that it will probably die. It's pathetic. Some humans do not deserve the unconditional love and respect a pet can give.

What a sick twisted coward lowlife scumbag!

  • Martha 1 year ago

As long as cowards like this human scumbag do nat get punish for their actions they will not learn. I hope apollo gets better at least he is safe now.

  • Ron 1 year ago

Heck, throw the trash out in the street in the cold. Tie him to a street sign and hose him down with ice water. Every day for six months. If he survives, lock him up with bubba for a few years.

  • Windmill 1 year ago

Here's just another lo-life POS that can do that to their pet and walk away. POS. How does this POS treat other humans? they say whatever treatment you dole out to your pet, is the same as you dole out to other humans. I'm certainly glad I don't know this evil wasted piece of skin.

He looks like a bulldog to me. His former owner is undoubtedly a piece of crap. I wish authorities would do the same thing to him that he did to this poor dog. It's crimes like these that make me wish we still had some of those good old Medieval punishments!

  • Piper Bob 1 year ago

The owner belongs behind bars, and not the Tavern kind but the bars that lock up cruel and unusual people. I agree with a previous post, let him sit in the cold until ice forms on his inhumane body.

  • pambon 1 year ago

Yet another heart rending and haunting photo. These people sicken me.

I agree with you guys. The guy is a total piece of crap and should be left out in sub-degree weather without a coat and see how it feels. This just makes me furious!!!! How can people be so damned stupid and cruel. Hang the man after he's had the same experience as sweet Apollo.

  • AprilB 1 year ago

You should check out the Humane Society web page. He's doing better, and his new picture, while still sad, is not quite so heartbreaking.

  • petluver 1 year ago

What the hell is wrong with people? Seriously.

Anyone who does this to an animal is mentally ill or retarded.
My god, I just can't believe the stupidity and ignorance.

  • Charlene Casucci 1 year ago

  • Regina D. 1 year ago

That photo hurts my heart. I'm so glad someone listened to the dog and got helped. The owner should suffer and go to jail.
Hope you can find a home for Apollo. Sweet thing. He does look like a pit bull.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

The owner has been found and issued a ticket. Really, that's the best they can do?
